  • Overview

    Assist Operations Manager, Port Captain, and Engineering department to oversee Tug Operations for all HMG vessels. Review vessel schedule to confirm that workload is covered as efficient as possible. Review crew schedule for any conflicts and assist dispatch with needs. Assist with training and evaluation of marine personnel. Required to perform vessel maintenance functions. Ensure Company Policies and Procedures are being adhered to at all times.  Respond to any emergencies that arise while supporting the On Call Manager. Complete other tasks as assigned by Marine Operations Manager and/or Port Captain.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist Port Captain with Captain’s Meetings
    • Review all Trainee Booklets and communicate the progress to GM
    • Develop and administer operating & cost control procedures on company vessels
    • Assist in SIRE inspections and scheduling of SIRE’s
    • Ensure vessels are SIRE ready          

    Qualifications

    • Must be thoroughly familiar with tank barge, ship and terminal/refinery operations
    • Extensive knowledge of tugboat & oil transportation industry
    • Must be thoroughly familiar with tank barge, ship and terminal/refinery operations
    • Knowledge of tug and barge maintenance systems and equipment
    • Tug and barge experience is preferred
    • USCG license preferred
    • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
    • Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crew members
    • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications
    • Ability to work with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment
    • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions
    • Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance
    • Must be able to read, speak, write type and understand English in person and over the phone
    • Valid First Aid/CPR training or obtained upon hire
    • Valid State Driver’s license
    • Valid TWIC
    • HAZWOPER (including Incident Command System) training within 90 days of being hired

    Job Condition and Environment

    • Capable of making decisions and giving directions to facilitate prompt service delivery
    • Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port
    • Frequently required to board tugs, barges, and ships, at dock or at anchor in all weather conditions and at all hours

    Expected Hours of Work

    • Normal office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
    • Take communications, and call-outs 24 hours a day, including weekends
    • May be required to travel to Company out ports as needed
